Is 28kW too much generator for my house?
Sometimes, and we will tell you if it is. The 28kW earns its place on larger homes with two air conditioning systems, a pool, a well pump, or a genuinely heavy simultaneous load. On a 2,200 square foot home with one AC unit it is more than you need, and we would rather size you correctly than sell you the biggest box. The free in-home assessment settles it with a real load calculation.
What is the difference between this and a Guardian?
Different product families. The Guardian series tops out at 26kW and uses the Evolution controller with Wi-Fi. The 28kW is from Generac’s Next Generation line — a larger G-Force 1000 engine, the PowerZone 200 controller, built-in cellular instead of Wi-Fi, and electronic fuel and emission control. It is not a bigger Guardian; it is a newer platform.
Will it run two air conditioners at once?
On most homes, yes — that is exactly the situation it is built for. Whether both compressors can start simultaneously depends on their size and inrush, which is why we calculate the actual starting load rather than adding up nameplate numbers. Where it is tight, load management sequences the starts so you never notice.
Natural gas or propane — does it change the output?
Yes. The unit is rated 28 kW on liquid propane and 25 kW on natural gas. Both are entirely usable; natural gas gives you unlimited runtime with no refueling, propane gives you the higher rating. We confirm which fuel is actually available at your address during the assessment and size around the real number.
How loud is it really?
67 dB(A) under load and 55 dB(A) during the weekly self-test, measured at 23 feet. For reference, normal conversation is around 60 dB(A). It is an engine and you will know it is running, but it is built to sit in a Florida backyard on a normal residential lot.
Do I need a bigger gas meter?
Possibly. At full load it draws 297 cubic feet per hour, which is a real number against your existing gas service and your other appliances. We check the meter and the line sizing as part of the assessment, and if an upgrade is needed we coordinate it rather than discovering it on install day.
Does the transfer switch come with it?
The generator carries a 125 amp main line circuit breaker. The transfer switch is specified to your panel and your load — that is part of the design work, not an afterthought. Your written proposal itemizes the switch along with everything else.
How long does installation take?
One to two days on site for most homes. The full project — assessment, association review where it applies, permitting, delivery, install and final inspection — typically runs a few weeks. Starting before hurricane season keeps you ahead of the rush.
