What the 14kW is — and what it is not
Essential circuits, not the whole house
This is the honest framing. Generac positions the 14kW as essential-circuit protection — refrigeration, lighting, outlets, well pump, a window or mini-split unit, medical equipment. It is not sized to carry a full Florida home with central air running. If keeping central AC on is the point, you want 18kW or larger, and we will say so.
The right answer for a smaller or seasonal home
On a compact home, a condo with its own service, a guest house, or a property you are not living in year-round, 14kW is often exactly proportionate. Buying more generator than the load justifies is money spent on capacity that never gets used.
Clean power for sensitive electronics
True Power Technology holds total harmonic distortion under 5%. In practical terms that means computers, medical equipment, modern appliance boards and home networking gear run on it without the rough waveform you get from a portable unit.
Quiet for its class
65 dB(A) under load and 55 dB(A) during the weekly self-test, both at 23 feet. The aluminum enclosure includes sound attenuation, and the self-test runs at low speed on a schedule you choose.
Automatic, permanently installed, and permitted
It sits outside on a pad like an A/C condenser, wired into your panel through a transfer switch, running on natural gas or propane. When the grid drops it starts on its own in about ten seconds. We pull the electrical and gas permits and see the inspection through.
Want to keep the air conditioning on?
Then 14kW is probably not your unit. Most Tampa Bay homes that want central air through an outage land between 22kW and 26kW. We would rather size you correctly than sell you the wrong box — the assessment costs nothing and settles it.

Will a 14kW run my air conditioning?
Usually not a full central air system on a Florida home, and we would rather tell you that up front. The 14kW is built for essential circuits. If your goal is to keep central AC running through an outage — which for most Tampa Bay households is the whole point — you should be looking at 18kW or larger. The free assessment gives you the real number for your house.
Who is the 14kW actually right for?
Smaller or seasonal homes, guest houses, condos with their own electrical service, and households whose priority is refrigeration, lights, water and medical equipment rather than full-house comfort. It is also a reasonable choice where the gas service or the budget genuinely will not support a larger unit.
Is this a Guardian or a Next Generation unit?
Guardian. The 14kW uses the G-Force 800 engine, the Evolution controller and standard Wi-Fi. Generac’s Next Generation platform — the PowerZone 200 controller and built-in cellular — starts higher in the range. Worth knowing if you are comparing spec sheets across sizes.
What can I actually run on it?
It depends entirely on how the circuits are prioritized, which is a design decision we make with you. A typical essential-circuit configuration covers the refrigerator, freezer, lighting, outlets, the well pump, garage door, internet and a window or mini-split AC unit. We map it out during the assessment so there are no surprises during the first outage.
Does it use less fuel than a bigger generator?
Not necessarily, and this surprises people. At half load the 14kW consumes 195 cubic feet of natural gas per hour; the 28kW consumes 182. The newer engine on the larger unit is more efficient. Fuel economy is not a good reason on its own to size down.
Is it loud?

Do you handle permits and inspection?

What if I want to go bigger later?
Sizing up after the fact means replacing the unit, so it is worth getting right the first time. That is the single biggest reason we run a load calculation at the house rather than quoting from square footage over the phone.
